FII provides advisory services on a contract basis. Areas of expertise include:

  • utilization of co-products from the bio-products industries

  • effective use of co-product streams (grains and special crops, canola crushing and ethanol production)
  • increased feed ingredient/product exports (aquaculture, blended feeds, fractionation products and protein concentrates)
  • replacement of corn, soybean and feed ingredient imports (pea, canola blends)
  • pea-canola meal blends for livestock product & facility development
  • evaluation and market assessment of Saskatchewan-produced fish meals
  • direct consultation with producer groups in targeting needs for feed quality improvement
  • use of distressed grains and low quality crops (frozen wheat, weather damaged canola)
  • development of grain screening processing facilities in Saskatchewan (technical support, advisory, development and technology transfer activities)
  • market development and technical support of Canadian processed alfalfa products in the Japanese, Korean and other global markets (on-site technical support, seminars and development of brochures and news articles)
  • development and application of micronization to create specialized feeds products
  • development of functional feeds (high fat oats, omega-3 eggs, milk and beef)
  • replacement alternatives for antibiotics and medications
  • measures to address food safety, quality assurance and negative environmental risks (use of food wastes, low phytate barley strains)
  • conducting educational seminars for visiting groups including delegations from Asia, Latin America and Europe.
